We would like to use this opportunity to explain some details surrounding the recent news and to issue confidence that our commitment to you continues.

As a company and product portfolio many of you have grown to depend on and trust, we would first like to thank you for over 10 years worth of support and encouragement. We wouldn’t be where we are today without the fuel that you have provided us.

This new chapter marks a very exciting time for Bunkspeed. Our products have grown, evolved and matured to a point where they are relied upon globally throughout the product development process. The demands for greater presence, interoperability and functionality are requests that not only excite us, but allow us to gauge what decisions we need to make to return the favor. RTT’s decision to acquire Bunkspeed was positive means to support these demands. The brand we have built and the product portfolio we offer is only intended to benefit moving forward. We will continue to operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of RTT USA while leveraging the most of an organization with over 800 employees and presence in every major market globally.

Our primary objective has always been to deliver the Fastest, Easiest, Fun and Reliable design visualization software and services. With the support of RTT, we aim to accelerate these objectives. Only the Best HDR Light Studio Support in Bunkspeed 2014

HDR Light Studio Screenshot

Special Announcement
Bunkspeed 2014 products now support a seamless live integration with HDR Light Studio 4… providing an amazing new lighting experience!

Users of Bunkspeed Shot, Pro and Drive 2014.1.1+ editions can now enjoy out of the box live integration with HDR Light Studio 4 software for the live creation and editing of HDRI maps with instant feedback in the render view. It’s the perfect partnership for those wishing to take their design visualization to new heights of perfection.

Lightmap and Bunkspeed have worked closely to develop a tight integration that provides seamless new lighting features for Bunkspeed users. For example, placing lights in the shot is as simple as clicking on the model in the render view, we call this feature LightPaint and it’s the fastest most intuitive way to light a CG image. Users can create multiple HDR Light Studio environments in Bunkspeed and hot swap between them for comparison and further editing. Any existing HDR or EXR environment can also be edited in HDR Light Studio. The new integration is so simple to use, yet provides a very powerful lighting tool kit and includes photographic captures of a wide range of studio light sources that bring added realism to renders with subtle details seen in reflections.

Juan Garcia Mansilla Creates the “RDSV” Concept in Rhino and Bunkspeed

RDSV – Rapid Deployment Snow Vehicle.

RDSV – Rapid Deployment Snow Vehicle – Story from Juan Garcia Mansilla on Vimeo.

How it was accomplished:

RDSV was modeled entirely in Rhinoceros. All renderings were created using Bunkspeed Shot. Two separate BIFs were used, one for the shiny clean studio shots and another one for the dirty, worn out action shots. All post processing was done in Photoshop.

This was strictly a personal project, just for the fun of it.

He has been using Bunkspeed rendering products since the days of Hypershot, then in 2011, moved to Bunkspeed Shot.

“It has been a fundamental tool for me in College… it allowed me to visualize and show ideas to others in very fast ways. As a tool, it increased the quality of my work and minimized the time it took me to get it done. It is now a permanent addition to my workflow.” - Says Juan

The RDSV is a 2 seater high speed vehicle for use in any polar environment. It would aptly serve polar exploration, rescue missions, medical emergencies or even sport applications, basically anything that requires high speeds over rough terrain or long distances. The whole idea started with the traction system, something that could allow high speeds across Antarctica but could also climb up a mountain for an avalanche rescue operation. Then the whole vehicle was built around it.

RDSV features an adaptive traction system that allows for an effective displacement over both ice/hard snow or deep snow. Each wheel is made up by twelve individual units, each with two different paddles: a small one (for hard surfaces) and a big one (for deep snow). Depending on the terrain, each unit rotates accordingly to expose the desired paddle.

The current paradigm for snow vehicles states: “Simple Traction at the rear, two skids at the front”. RDSV inverts this paradigm to achieve more traction, improving deep snow performance and displacement in sloped terrain.

The vehicle also features a universal docking system and solar panel at the top. This allows the addition of multiple accessories from ski & snowboard cages to radars and other sensors. It can also be adapted to hold an injured person in the back.

Fast: MotoCzysz meets Bunkspeed

Nick Schoeps, senior engineer at MotoCzysz let us in to some secrets during his presentation at Nvidia’s GTC conference last week.

The Portland, Ore., firm’s latest goal is to create a hyper-aerodynamic bike capable of setting a new land speed record. Constant improvements and refinements of every aspect of the motorcycle will get them there.

MotoCzysz in Bunkspeed

This builds upon a history of winning some of the most prestigious races for electric-drive and conventional motorcycles three years in a row.

So what helps MotoCzysz maintain their lead?

The Quadro GPU lets MotoCzysz use SolidWorks to see every detail of a bike, without lag, and tweak the design as needed. Meanwhile, the Tesla GPU processes ray-tracing from Bunkspeed Pro and performs all the rendering and simulations in the background.

Aircraft Quality by ID Group

Its always a nice surprise when a customer sends in some examples of their recent work. When ID Group does this, we get particularly excited because they are always pushing the limits of our products. It’s no surprise that their latest work sets a standard for what is possible with Bunkspeed.

We asked them a few questions about their workflow so that the rest of the world can peer into their magic.

About this Project:

The Slimplus seat is a modular aircraft seat designed to provide a more pleasant flying experience for the passenger and a more versatile and efficient seat program for the manufacturer. For the passenger, the seat provides comfort, enhanced ergonomic features and appealing aesthetics. For the manufacturer, the seat meets stringent space, weight, cost, manufacturing and serviceability requirements.

3D visualization of the product was vital in the decision making process. Having the ability to visualize multiple design directions quickly and photo-realistically was invaluable for us. Animating a short clip of the Slimplus helped tremendously in marketing the product. Bunkspeed was instrumental in visualizing our ideas throughout the design process and even into production and marketing.

What is one aspect of the Slimplus project that you love?

A big part of our design focus was the modularity aspect of the seat system. With dozens of options and hundreds of cross-combinations, it was difficult to come up with an elegant solution to accommodate all of the possibilities. In the end, we designed a shroud system that can be easily removed from the frame. This innovation accounts for engineering demands and opens up possibilities for beautiful aesthetics. Bunkspeed was a vital tool for us to communicate these ideas to our clients. Visualizing the hundreds of iterations was made easy by their direct and intuitive UI. We used their configuration tool to its utmost during these phases.

What is one aspect of the pro suite that you love?

Bunkspeed Pro Suite is a powerful renderer with an emphasis on user experience. The guys at Bunkspeed have put a lot of focus on the GUI and how it relates to a broad range of workflow from different industries. Setting up a scene in the Pro Suite has never been easier; and they are continuing to improve. The iRay 2 render engine produces amazingly accurate lighting calculations; which leads to photo-realistic results. Bunkspeed Pro Suite is powerful enough to render complicated scenes without a lot of work-arounds; yet it is intuitive enough to allow people with little rendering experience to set up.

Airline Recliner Airline Recliner 2

Were you able to accomplish anything that just simply couldn’t be done before?

Bunkspeed was one of the earliest companies to utilize a GPU-capable rendering engine. With this new technology, ID Group was able to render at incredible speeds; so we can now render out animations cost-efficiently. This certainly opened new marketing / design opportunities for us and for our clients.

Airline Endbay Airline Seat Front

Could you think of a cost and time savings that were introduced by using our solutions?

If we compare CPU to GPU rendering solutions based on performance and cost, there is no argument that GPU-based renderers are more cost-efficient. For the same investment, we can gain a lot more rendering performance with GPU-based renderers vs the old school CPU-based renderers. With such a jump in rendering speeds, rendering time is no longer the bottleneck in our workflow for most projects.

Airline Slimplus Airline Seat Front 2

What was your client’s reaction to this project?

Our clients love the quality of our renderings. Sometimes they mistake it for a photograph; they sometimes even prefer our renderings over photographs. In addition, they were very impressed with the animated sequences.
